BACKGROUND

These reproduction U.S. half cent coins were minted by Gallery Mint and Striker Token and Medal from 1994 through 2007. Coins were made to the specific size and alloy of the original coins and all specimens were engraved and struck using traditional hand-crafted methods. Dies were engraved by Ron Landis; coin struck variously by Timothy Grat, Mike Ellis and others.

Issue Price   This column lists the original issue price of the specified coin at the time of its initial release. Please note that this price was often raised over the years to reflect increases in manufacturing costs as well as bullion and other raw materials. Further, several "closed" issues of certain coins (such as the GMM 1793 Chain cent proof with a mintage of 500) were sold out before the coins were ever released. Many of these closed issues have since increased significantly in value on the secondary market. Several "closed" pieces are offered in this sale.

AS 12-A 1796 Half Cent   This coin and all described with the "AS" prefix are from the Gallery Mint Archive Set. This coin is a First Strike proof, with pole, reverse COPY stamp, a perfect example for only $25.

AS 12-B 1796 Half Cent   Companion piece to the above coin. It is a First Strike proof, without pole, reverse COPY stamp, also only $25.

AS 12-C 1796 Half Cent   First Strike uncirculated, with pole, reverse COPY stamp, $25.

AS 12-D 1796 Half Cent   GMM made several different attempts to replicate the obverse crack on the "without pole" variety of the 1796 half cent, a super-rare coin with only 12 known examples. These efforts were chronicled in the Gallery Mint Report, Vol. 5, No. 2 (Sept, 1998). This is the first attempt, mintage 10, COPY stamp reverse. $40.

AS 12-E 1796 Half Cent   The second attempt, mintage 150, COPY stamp reverse. $40.

AS 12-F 1796 Half Cent   The second attempt, mintage 150, COPY stamp obverse. $25.

AS 12-G 1796 Half Cent   Proof, no-pole, variety 2, COPY stamp reverse. $25.

AS 12-H 1796 Half Cent   Uncirculated, with pole, burned reverse die, COPY stamp reverse. $25. For an explanation of "burned die", see: www.gmmnut.com/gmm/gmm18.html#burned.

AS 12-I 1796 Half Cent   Proof, no pole, variety 3, COPY stamp reverse. $25.

AS 12-J 1796 Half Cent   Proof, no pole, variety 4, COPY stamp reverse. $25.

AS 12-K 1796 Half Cent   Proof, with pole, variety 2, COPY stamp reverse. $25.

AS 12-L 1796 Half Cent   Uncirculated, with pole, burned die, COPY stamp obverse. $25. For an explanation of "burned die", see: www.gmmnut.com/gmm/gmm18.html#burned.

TONING

The definition of Red, Red/Brown and Brown is as follows:

Red means full original mint luster with little or no toning.

Red/Brown are coins that still have most of their mint luster but that have started to turn brown, spot or have an impaired finish. R/B coins have been reduced in price from Red coins.

Brown are coins that have been artificially treated after the minting process to give them a rich, chocolate color. All coins were processed at the same time and all have the same basic chocolate coloration. They look just like any nicely toned old copper coin.

Please note that despite the toning, these are all nice, full-strike, uncirculated coins.

COPY STAMP

All coins are stamped with the word "COPY" on either the obverse or reverse as indicated. This stamped is required by the Hobby Protection Act of 1973.

Cherry-Picker Tidbit:   Most GMM/Striker collectors wanted to display their coin with the obverse side up, so they requested the COPY stamp to be on the coin's reverse. As a consequence, GMM/Striker coins with a COPY stamped obverse are at least 10 times rarer than those with the stamp on the reverse! (This does not apply to the Bar Cent, the 1804 Dollar and a few other coins where the COPY stamp was embedded in the reverse die itself, not a later counter-stamp). The obverse COPY coins are also priced much cheaper in this close-out sale. So, rarer and cheaper. Hmmm. Think about it.

ORDERING INFORMATION

All coins are sold "as is" on a first-come, first-served basis. When there are multiple specimens, every effort will be made to choose the finest particular coin for each order.

Coins can be ordered by phone, mail or email. All sales are by cashier's check, personal check or money order-no PayPal or credit card sales at this time.

Please add $3.00 for the first coin, and $2.00 for each additional coin for shipping and handling. It costs nothing to ask for multiple-piece discounts.
