BACKGROUND

These reproduction Colonial coins were minted by Gallery Mint, Inc. and Striker Token and Medal, LCC, from 1996 through 2007. Coins were made to the specific size and alloy of the original coins and all specimens were engraved and struck using traditional hand-crafted methods. Dies were engraved by Ron Landis; coin struck variously by Timothy Grat, Adam Hardcastle, Mike Ellis, Sonny Carpenter and others.

Fugio Cents   GMM first issued the popular Fugio cent in 1996 and it was always a solid seller until the final days of Striker over a decade later. The coin is very well executed and the historical linkage to Benjamin Franklin makes it a must-have for every Colonial collector who wants an accurate reproduction of one of America's signature pieces. The close-out sale price of $12 for Red specimens, or only $8 for the beautiful chocolate Brown version, is the lowest price ever offered for any GMM reproduction.

The Fugio proof cent listed as AS 26-A came from the GMM Archive Set (see "Archive Sets" under Concept Dollars). This was a very limited series and there are only two specimens of this rare issue remaining. Potential buyers need to confirm its purchase by telephone or email. These are beautiful, full-strike proof versions and will disappear quickly into solid collections where they will probably not reemerge for many years.

Bar Cents   The Bar cent was another popular Landis engraving and sales were always brisk. These coins only come with the COPY stamp on the reverse (see below: Copy Stamp). There are very few red ones left; the brown ones were toned using the same process as the Fugio cents and are a nice milk chocolate brown (see below: Toning). This Bar cent was the lowest priced of any standard GMM/Striker product, and they have been reduced even further for this sale. At $8 each these won't last long.

Continental Currency   The Continental dollars were another open-ended series that sold very well in all four metals: copper, brass, pewter and silver. The silver version is not discounted as it contains almost an ounce of silver and always sold out at full price of $40. But the other three metal types are all discounted from their issue price. No four-piece boxed sets of the Continental Currency remain.

New Jersey Coppers   The New Jersey series was issued in limited quantity and many GMM/Striker customers were never able to obtain a specimen. For the 1786 coin (Maris 8F), a total of 1,917 pieces were originally struck. For the 1787 version (Maris 62.5), there were 2,222 pieces minted; and for the 1788 coin (Maris 51G), no more than 2,000 pieces were made. Of these totals, there are fewer than five pieces of all types left in this closeout inventory, excepting the 1788 piece with the chocolate brown toning, which was neither a standard or special issue. It is offered here for the first and only time at $20; please call or write to reserve all other NJ cents.

TONING

The definition of Red, Red/Brown and Brown is as follows:

Red means full original mint luster with little or no toning.

Red/Brown are coins that still have most of their mint luster but that have started to turn brown, spot or have an impaired finish. R/B coins have been reduced in price from Red coins.

Brown are coins that have been artificially treated after the minting process to give them a rich, chocolate color. All coins were processed at the same time and all have the same basic chocolate coloration. They look just like any nicely toned old copper coin.

Please note that despite the toning, these are all nice, full-strike, uncirculated coins.

COPY STAMP

All coins are stamped with the word "COPY" on either the obverse or reverse as indicated. This stamped is required by the Hobby Protection Act of 1973.

Cherry-Picker Tidbit:   Most GMM/Striker collectors wanted to display their coin with the obverse side up, so they requested the COPY stamp to be on the coin's reverse. As a consequence, GMM/Striker coins with a COPY stamped obverse are at least 10 times rarer than those with the stamp on the reverse! (This does not apply to the Bar Cent, the 1804 Dollar and a few other coins where the COPY stamp was embedded in the reverse die itself, not a later counter-stamp). The obverse COPY coins are also priced much cheaper in this close-out sale. So, rarer and cheaper. Hmmm. Think about it.

ORDERING INFORMATION

All coins are sold "as is" on a first-come, first-served basis. When there are multiple specimens, every effort will be made to choose the finest particular coin for each order.

Coins can be ordered by phone, mail or email. All sales are by cashier's check, personal check or money order-no PayPal or credit card sales at this time.

Please add $3.00 for the first coin, and $2.00 for each additional coin for shipping and handling. It costs nothing to ask for multiple-piece discounts.
